Cary/Apex/Raleigh/Holly Springs NC - Real Estate blog.  I had the opportunity to hear Tony Tata address Cary NC Realtors regarding the new Wake County School Assignment Plan.  Our hope is that this new plan will have a positive impact on Cary NC Real Estate. There are a lot of great advantages to the new "Choice Student Assignment Plan" that you can benefit from whether you are planning to sell your home, purchase a new home, or just stay put for a while!

The key objectives of the new plan are (1) stability, (2) proximity, (3) choice, and (4) achievement.  The choice plan gives families exactly that, a choice!  Families who are happy with their current schools can stay.  Upcoming sibilings can join the same plan.  And best of all, the new plan prevents controversial mandatory reassignments.

Addresses are no long attached to specific schools, but rather to a selection of the closest schools.  All families will be able to choose from at least 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools.

Here are a few key dates to keep in mind as you review your school selection options:

(1) November 28th:  Pre-enrollment begins.  Be sure to bring your child's birth certificate, immunization records, proof of address and photo ID with you.

(2) December 5th-19th: Magnet School Selection Period. 

(3) January 17th - February 27th.  Choice Selection Period. Choose from at least 5 elementary, 2  middle and 2 high schools. NEw students must rank all possible choices. 

(4) March 19th - April 9th.  Round 2 Choice Select Period. If you changed your mind or missed round 1, this would be the time to submit your choice.

(5) May 15th.  All parents will get re-confirmation of school assignemtnts.
